New Country Report: The Republic of the Philippines

The syllabus was practical, comprehensive and combined almost everything I wanted to learn to do. The course made my wishes come true.

Things I previously thought were impossible now seem very easy to achieve with the arsenal of digital tools the course introduced me to. I think that the programme is for journalists who want to create the future of journalism and be 10 years ahead of the industry.

It is for those who are not afraid of learning new things and combining unlikely tools and techniques from previously unconnected domains of science. I found myself combining political science with machine learning with computational linguistics with journalism. The best thing about my course is it triggers you not only to expand your perspective theoretically, but also introduces you into some very specified and technical knowledge that you will need in the professional field.

Before attending Goldsmiths, I worked as a journalist. The scholarship is clearly one of the most substantial stepping stones in my career as a journalist. Having been involved in the industry for four years, I won two journalism awards and worked in a multiplatform environment throughout various world-class media companies such as National Geographic and The Jakarta Post. In my spare time, I contribute stuff for several publications, such as Rolling Stone magazine and local music websites in Indonesia.

Goldsmiths is like the funky-friendly uncle you never had. On this programme we interrupt theory with practice, and practice with theory — we aim to engage you, intellectually and critically, and with enthusiasm, in a cultural studies project that questions everything. Nathan completed his medical degree and qualified from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in During this time he also completed an intercalated honours degree in Human Genetics. Following his studies, he went on to spend two years working at various training hospitals in South Africa, gaining invaluable experience in emergency medicine, trauma management, internal medicine, infectious diseases and paediatrics.

Since his move to the UK in , he has been involved with renowned private UK psychiatric hospitals including the Woodbourne Priory, Birmingham and more recently, the Capio Nightingale Hospital, London. Nathan joined Roodlane in and has a special interest in general and preventative medicine and he recently obtained his diploma in Occupational Medicine. Outside of work Nathan enjoys making music and cycling.

He is a Certified Fitness Trainer and has a keen interest in nutrition and weight management. Nathan is passionate about wellness promotion and derives fulfilment from helping others achieve holistic and sustainable lifestyle change.

Peter graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in and after postgraduate training spent time in Sports Medicine at Cape Town, where he obtained a BSc degree in Sports Science.

He combined an interest in Sports Medicine with his General Practice in Cape Town over several years, attending to individuals and teams up to international level, and has toured with the South African cricket team.

He has worked in a wide range of positions in the UK since , gaining experience in both NHS and private hospitals, general practice and other settings. Since working in the City, Peter has developed an interest in Occupational Medicine and obtained his Diploma in He has developed an interest in sports medicine, mental health, dermatology and addictions.

Outside interests include photography, Tai Chi and walking as well as sport in general. Laura qualified from the University of Paris in and she then completed her doctorate in medicine with honours in during which time she also obtained qualifications in nutrition and tobacco addiction. She also worked as project director for the French agency for smoking prevention, managing stop-smoking programs in work places.

She had her own smoking cessation clinic and provided specialised advice and training to healthcare professionals. She moved to London in with her young family, following which she started to work in a private clinic and in health screening.

Laura joined Roodlane Medical in She has a multicultural background and is also fluent in Spanish, French and Italian. She then moved to Portugal where she completed her training programme in Family Medicine. During her GP training, she rotated through many specialities including gynaecology, palliative care, paediatrics, rheumatology, dermatology, care of the elderly, minor surgery and psychiatry. She also gained a postgraduation in sports medicine at University of Porto in Portugal.

She developed an interest in substance misuse and drug abuse and spent three years working on the GP team of the Portuguese Institute for Drugs and Drug Addictions where she gained invaluable experience. She enjoys dancing, photography, art, spending time with her family and travelling around the world. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Sheena joined Roodlane in the summer of She has an excellent pedigree in City medicine having previously spent six years looking after a broad range of both private patients and corporate clients within the City.

She became a partner in and has brought considerable breadth to the practice spanning many fields. Sheena trained at the Royal London and St. In addition she has further qualifications in family planning, aviation medicine and, of course, occupational health. Sheena is a keen outdoor sportswoman and, when not looking after patients, will be happy to take up a challenge in anything from clay pigeon shooting and skiing to sailing!

Sheena recently turned her interest to flying and is now a keen pilot. She then worked in Namibia and rural South Africa gaining vast experience. She then worked in Private hospitals in the UK whilst also fulfilling her passion for travel.

Teresa joined Roodlane in May In her free time she enjoys cycling and mountain biking, and has completed numerous cycle tours in Cape Town. She has two children and also has an interest in and knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Aitken qualified, with merit, from University College Hospital London in After qualifying as a General Practitioner in , he worked for two years as an army doctor, looking after soldiers and their families at a tank barracks in the South of England.

This provided experience in sports medicine and occupational health. Here he worked as a General practitioner, but also as a part time skin cancer physician after being awarded a certificate in Skin Cancer Surgery from the University of Queensland. Mark joined Roodlane in April Other achievements include a Masters in Human Molecular Genetics and two published journal papers.

He is married with two young children. Clive qualified at Westminster Hospital in , after which he gained experience in ENT surgery before completing his postgraduate general practice training in The following seven years were spent as a GP in the NHS before returning to London to work in City based private practice where he has worked ever since. He has postgraduate qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as Occupational Medicine.

He has a wide range of interests including dermatology and musculoskeletal medicine. Niaz is passionate about delivering high quality and innovative care in General Practice. Over the past few years, he has gained extensive experience within General Practice as well as postgraduate teaching and GP training. He also held the post of regional lead for cancer in South London, and has developed a specialist interest in skin disorders, having recently been awarded a distinction for the London postgraduate dermatology diploma.

He then developed an interest in occupational medicine and obtained his diploma in In his spare time, Niaz enjoys travelling, food and drink, long distance running and spending time with friends and family. Sally was born and bred in Manchester. She studied medicine at Leicester Medical School and qualified with merit in After qualification she did several years in hospital medicine gaining a wide range of experience in areas such as emergency medicine, dermatology, endocrinology, psychiatry and female health.

She underwent her post-graduate GP training as part of the Oxford University scheme. After obtaining her GP qualifications she worked in various areas including Glasgow and Cheshire before leaving to spend four years in Shanghai as a GP, where she gained wide experience in areas such as travel medicine, stress and depression and health issues related to an expatriate lifestyle. She joined Roodlane in Special interests for Sally include mental health especially stress and depression, endocrinology and travel medicine.

In her spare time she enjoys a range of outdoor sports and spending time with her family. She developed a passion for holistic medicine whilst completing her post-graduate general practice training.

She then gained further experience in psychiatry whilst working in Australia. This ran until , and was last based at The Hale Clinic. During the latter part of her career Millie has developed as a conventional GP, with a broad skill base and an interest in clinical models. Her private work explored the concepts of integrating disciplines, multi-layered diagnosis and individualised care.

She has additional skills and diplomas in female health and occupational medicine. She moved completely into the private sector in , working at the London Clinic before joining Roodlane in Outside of work she is married with two daughters and an English Springer Spaniel. She has interests in health writing, travel, yoga and nutrition. She then trained as GP and finished her vocational training in She next worked in an occupational health department at a prestigious private medical clinic in Bucharest for a number of corporate clients.

She developed an interest in Holistic medicine and studied to gain a Diplome de la Teraputic Homeopoathie Boiron In Adriana moved with her family to Birmingham UK where she worked in private hospitals and across the UK in post-operative care and oncology.

In July she returned to preventative medicine and joined Roodlane as a health screening doctor based in the midlands. She enjoys spending time with her family and Tibetan terrier and mountain trekking, orienteering and classical music.

She is fluent in English, French, and Italian. Colin graduated from Dundee University in , following which he gained hospital experience in general medicine, psychiatry and infectious diseases before completing his GP training in He then worked in a busy urban practice until leaving in having gained a wide range of GP experience.

He joined Roodlane Glasgow office then, and continues to maintain his general skills by working in the Out of Hours service. During this time he worked in various specialities including: This brought about the opportunity to work in a high needs area with local Maori communities, focusing on sexual health, family medicine and chronic disease management. He joined Roodlane in November and is enjoying settling back in to London life and adapting to the challenges that a diverse and dynamic population has to offer.

In his spare time he enjoys sporting activities, traveling and working as an expedition doctor in places such as Kilimanjaro and Everest Base camp. Rachel was born and brought up in London. She studied medicine at the University of Sheffield, graduating in During this time, she gained experience in emergency medicine, psychiatry and paediatrics.
